Laurentian is an improved version of the more commonly known ‘Purple Top Swede’. This delicious Heirloom variety was first introduced to America via Canada in the 1920’s.
Laurentian has excellent storage qualities, a smooth texture and a slight sweetness. A winner for every patch and a vegetable we think deserves to be back on the dining room table.
Frost can improve the sweetness so if you live in a frosty area be sure to harvest after the first few frosts for optimal flavour. Swedes also like a rich soil so be sure to add compost or blood and bone when preparing your beds.
