Dark red and white leaves make for a wonderfully attractive Italian heirloom vegetable. Producing tightly packed cabbage like heads 10-12cm, the bitter leaves are a perfectly refreshing addition to salads.
Radicchio is an easy vegetable to grow however it does prefer weather on the cooler side, for best results avoid the heat of summer which will cause bolting and the frosts of winter which can damage the plant. Spring and Autumn are ideal sowing times in all but more tropical locations.
If you are limited for space this is a great vegetable to grow in pots.
