November 2021 In The Garden

November 2021

As the cool of early spring starts to give way to the warmer days of early summer there is a real buzz across many gardening areas. The risk of frost is reducing in cool climates and temperatures are definitely on the up in Arid and Temperate climates.

Beans are now making an appearance in cool, arid and temperate climates. There are low growing bush varieties, tall climbers, beans perfect to eat fresh or ones to dry and cook over winter. Whatever your choice, beans are easy to grow and require little fuss for maximum results. For those in tropical climates stick with Snake Beans – a tried and tested performer for your climate.

Cool climate gardeners – it’s time to get excited, the weather is warming up and you can nearly get those cold sensitive tomatoes and chillies into the ground. If you haven’t already, there’s still time to gets some seeds sown for planting out before Christmas. Check out our In-Focus Tomato guide for some top tips on growing tomatoes in your garden.

Malabar or Ceylon spinach as it is also known, can be planted in all climates this month, hailing from tropical Africa it is perfect for tropical climates and as long as its roots are kept moist, it will thrive in the hottest of southern dry summers – an excellent alternative to traditional spinach which can struggle in the heat of summer.

With so many vegetables to plant, make sure you leave some room for pollinating flowers, not only will they add beautiful colours to your garden, they will help attract beneficial insects – a win-win in anyone’s book.

Happy gardening!
